But the three would not listen. They had once played cards and Oakhurst had won. John Oakhurst, a gambler, lives in Poker Flat, a California gold-mining town.
And that is the way they were found the next morning when help arrived from Poker Flat. They had frozen to death during the night. He started to his feet with the intention of awakening the sleepers, for there was no time to lose. The cavalcade provoked no comments from the spectators, nor was any word uttered by the escort.
